To help celebrate Earth day, and with gardening and planting getting started, using compost for your plants is a great way to nourish the earth. Compost is inexpensive and full of robust nutrients.  Using a small container in the kitchen to collect vegetable and fruit peels and remnants to put into your plants nurtures them and helps the earth. Some of the nutrients your plants benefit from are minerals, such as potassium, iron, selenium, and vitamins such as thiamin, Vitamin C, and folate, along with others such as fiber, carbohydrates and protein.  Other compost materials can be wood chips, yard trimmings, and tea bags.  Check the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website for information on a list of organic materials that are recommended for composting, at:

Enjoy your garden and watch the beautiful results of using compost to feed your plants and nourish the Earth!
