With the new bill signed by President Obama this week regarding healthier school lunches, school lunch trays with hot dogs and tator tots may become a thing of the past, and you can be more assured that your children will be getting healthier foods during school lunches. The Healthy, Hunger Free Act of 2010 involves a mission to make school lunches more nutritious, and be able to provide children with the quality of food they need to ensure optimal learning and growth.

Some of the items the bill will help provide are increased funding for schools that meet the higher nutritional standards, better nutritional quality of foods that come from commodities, and the authority by the United States Department Of Agriculture (USDA) to set higher standards for nutritional guidelines for foods sold in schools such as in a la carte lines and vending machines. To look at a sample of the healthier food choices that would be used in a school lunch menu, visit:

Don’t rejoice yet, that is the average–so some people do gain more than that, and the problem that occurs later is that those 1 to 2 pounds usually stay, and over the years results in becoming a noticeably 5, 10 or 15 pounds heavier.

Check out our article, “Holiday Weight Gain Woes,” (link below) for 10 easy tips to stay on track during the holidays in order to keep the pounds away.
